Angels or demons by Alex

So this is actually an older drawing I started in Cairo, but I thought it would be an interesting addition to the assignment of the female figure. Perhaps this old timer is contemplating the feminine figures silhouetted upon the dunes. Nothing perplexes and delights a man more then women. The water colour looking streeks are actually red wine, Omar Khayam to be precise, my favourite wine from Egypt.

Extend it brotha!

Alright fellas, times are tough and busy for all of us looks like it. Lets extend this assignment for another week. It is a great topic and it would be a shame to miss it. So next Sunday lets come out in numbers and post some great artwork. I believe in you!!!
And three hip hip hoorays goes out to Adnan for being on time!

the new female project

Female Nude

Title is self explanatory... It has been a source of worship and inspiration and perspiration for artist trough centuries. Petite, round, bony, blond, brunet, fiery red haired, deliciously voluptuous, mild tempered and demoneshly destructive, they are what they are.
Let 'em rip!

Dado by Dado

Yeahh well lets not count this one in the good books. It did not turn like I wanted it to go. But hey, on the bright side, I have cooked a delicious fish for a dinner! Yuuummmyyyy
Cheers guys!

Philip by Dad

So, I was working on this one at the same time as my self portrait assignment, since my son is so much of me, I think a picture of me is incomplete without one of him. My self portrait is too gloomy anyway. Kind of different this painting. Speaks for itself. This is how I see my son. Full of energy and enthusiasm. Expressive and innocent. I started this painting back in march, I was somewhat out of wack then, and the painting was stiff and , well just was going in a bad direction. So I put it away for months, then I got back into it last week with a totally different mindset, and it turned out just how I wished it to be. I realy enjoyed doing this painting, it has alot of meaning for me. He is my son and my sun. The light was the main tool in this one, and I love working with it. I wanted it to surround him and eminate from him, I think I was somewhat succesful. I udes several photo refs for this, as well a sketching from life. The main pic I used I took a year and a half ago, for a 3 year old thats a big difference in appearence. Since I wanted to paint him the way he is today, it was a bit a of a challange.

Alex by Alex

Hmm, sometimes we need to do a self portrait just to see ourselves in the mirror. In our minds, in our souls, much remains hidden even from ourselves. I found  dketching out painting a self portrait will reveal alot. This one certainly did. Seems like the darkness and light are in a struggle in this one. It went in a totaly different direction then I originally started with. I kept it loose and free from the start. Oil is great in that way, some of the best things happen by accident. We can also f**k up a painting, but thats how she goes.

Self portrait assignment

Ok boyz, new assignment is a self portrait, so we can all get visually introduced on color doodle dump. I think we should have started with this one, but better late then never. So, lets all do a self portrait, any style , any colour. Have fun @ colordoodledump!

The Musician

Another Tom Waits inspired piece...rockin a piano done in a jaunty Jim Flora style.

Sunset by Dado

Here is a sketch done in Colors! for Nintendo DS.
I love sunsets and sunrises, there is so much opportunity for contrast, light and shadow work.

New Assignment

This one is due October 20th...the subject is:

The Musician.

Let 'er rip fellas.

ALpha Male...

Here's a painting I did a while back. I had started on a series of alpha male stereotypes from assorted cultures, and I didn't really get farther than this tubby fella. I've got sketches of other ideas, but none finished to this degree. Bubie made a kishka!

Free for All

Hi guys
I had some ideas for this week's assignment, but instead I will give everyone a break. You choose your own idea and your own direction. Goal is to produce one piece of artwork of your own choice by next Tuesday night. Gentlemen, enjoy and have fun @ Color Doodle Dump

Spinning The dreams Of Oneness by Alex

This was such a little journey of painting exploration. I had an image in mind, and focues on the persian miniature style, specially I was influenced by the master pieces of Alijanpour. I remebered watching these dancers, and feeling their flowing rythems, I was also watching video clips of sufi dancers for the reference, and could not do a static painting while looking at those swirling dreamers. So, I continued swirling with them. My brush was swirling constantly, in circles like the dancers, only stopping to reload my brush. The result was a surprise, as was the feeling while I was painting. I was high, but not on drugs, or drink.  perhaps this is close to their goal also. Originaly, I was planning to have flowers as motifs in background, going with a typical pattern in Persian miniature style, but the brush swirls seemed so natural that I kept on that path. Also, this is literaly a miniature, the didgital image here is twice the size of the original oil. Like Dado, I also tried to blend old style and inovate it in a new way. I hope its pleasing, @ colordoodledump.

Persian Rug

This is not per say an original Persian manuscript design. But since we are in 2008, I tried to confuse the natives, as ol' Rick would tell us to do. Love that Persian design in their rugs, pure fractal bonanza. Cheers and have fun at Color Doodle Dump!

Metalic Life by Alex

Ok, so this is more of a feel of metal with natural elements then any representation of anything. its play with brushes in painter. Its not where I was thinking of going with this project, I had something representational in mind, with some detail and such. But as I was warming up, I got this neet little mix, and just ket hacking at it. Who would have thought, ,,, modern art. from a representational artists. But it felt good to work on it, and I think it has the feel of metal, and organic mix.

the new assinment

hey guys ,wats up ,so alex is telling me that its my turn to choose a subject ,,so the first thing that poped into my mind was persian painting style
from where i come from [egypt] middle eastern civilization we r so fond of line work, calligrafy patterns, harmony of lines, the very wierd prespective, colors
for those who dono anything about persian style [i hope u do]
its style that has been created by persians nd the arabs it came to its peek during the 16th ,17th century ,nd when the turks invaded india during the 15th centry ,they took the arabic style to india where the style have been shifted by time to become another unique indian style of own,nd for those who dono also rembrant nd rubens nd most of the famous painters of the 15century and rococo period used to copy sketches from the persian style to learn from it ,tni
so for the reference ,here u r some links i hope it would be useful for u,[in ur surfing use manuscript persian painting or just perisan paitning]

[[[[nd the subject of the painting its up to u guys to decide after u see some ref]]]]
from google u would find many exaples

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGro4iYQYW8 [this is a v good ref]

good luck nd have fun

I don't know... Is this a right choice for this assignment? You got artificial light, perhaps aliens beaming up a body... Ok, I will put more effort next time! I have done this on my DS using COLORS program.
Cheers guys and have fun at Color Doodle Dump!!!!

Sorry for upload late. anyway, this one of my quick sketch.

How about a pissed off bunny with an AK47 ?

Biotech Bear Bear

A polar bear driving an old car...why bother do anything else?

Wolverine by Alex

Hey guys, sorry to be late again, but had it on backburner for a bit.
So this is Wolverine, surrounded by wild nature, in his element, in a medatative state. I tried to make it rough and textural, experimented with the lense flare highlight, it seemed to work, so I left it. I would like to work some more on this, but for now its alright.

nature nd work

affected by betteo i did this ,

Biotech mix assignment

Ok, so for the next assignment, lets do something that mixes and combines biological, natural elements and technological ones. Could be a harmonious blend, perhaps like a cyborg, or a negative one, as in a pop can dumped in the middle of a pristine forest. Even an airplane is a possible concept, as aircraft use nature and natural laws for its very function. Lots of possabilaties, lets explore them.

Marvel should pay me for this shit

Read'em and weep, bitches! 4-5 hours

Quick Sketch fer y'all.

On the fly

Sooo this is my pathetic try at wolverine. I have been too busy lately, but then again I should not make excuses ;) Recently I bought Tablet PC, and this is a first paining done with it. I used Art Rage, what an awsome and in same time frustrating software. Tablet PC is proving to be great. I will never look back to regular tablets, being able to work straight on screen is a paradigam shift for me! This week I am taking off to Ottawa, for anual International animation Film Festival to represent Centennial College. I am so excited, so many films and presentations. I will up date you when I come back, till then have fun at Color Doodle Dump!!!

Whispers and Promises by Alex

SO here it is, sorry to be late. Still not happy with it, specially the photo of the painting, its not even close to the original, but thats how it is. A most interesting theme, I think I could do 1001 paintings on this theme. Here is the begining of the tale, the first night of the 1001. This allowed me to infuse some personal views at this time in my life with regards to women and relationships, aswell as using  a woman's bottom as a foreground element.
Here is this Vizer, or Caliph, Emir, whatever, with his fill of wives and concubines, he has seen it all, heard it all, and felt it all. What more can  this feline amuse him with? Well some felines will promise and whisper anything to save their bottoms. A difficult task indeed, to amuse and entice a wise skeptic. A man in command of his virility and desires. Oh the promises and whispers, oh my oh my...
An added bonus, this is the first time I got the chance to sign my name on such an interesting area of a painting.

I have alot of ideas right now. But have decided to keep my first assignment simple. I've been going ape shit over the new Wolverine movie trailer. SO, our assignment for this week is to color doodle anything that has to do with WOLVERINE from the X-Men comics. Have at it!

Bad Sin

Well, I picked the Sinbad stories from 1001 Arabian Nights to paint from. I decided to recreate a scene from the old movie, "Voyage of Sinbad". However, due to an intense schedule, I only managed to get the background done. Sorry. I'll post the complete one in a day or two.

Sheik Yerbouti

I know it's not quite 1001 arabian nights, but Zappa Rules.

One Thousand and One Arabian Nights

The title says it all... In the spirit of freedom and creativity I leave it up to you to interpret the challenge in your way. "Arabian Nights" is such a vast pool of ideas and inspirations. Go nuts @Color Doodle Dump!!!!

Ghosts of a Saturday night

So I threw my fav recent sketch into Photoshop and gave it a quick paintjob. Janela passed by an hour ago and commented how they look like ghosts...so I was immediately reminded of that Tom Waits song from which I got this ever-so-clever title. I just kinda liked the way the ppl looked in one bright colour--I was checking out some of Gaughin's works and got the idea to paint them as they are.
Cheers and here's some subway sketches from the past few months.

Casual Read by Alex

So this is an earlier doodle. But i just put it up to contrast the previous post I put.
Also on the metro, also reading, but in a very, very different way. I thought the contrast to be interesting. Such a difference when reading hollywood highlights or the days horoscope then when where reading something that deeply interests us.

Good Read by Alex

Ok so this girl was sitting on the subway, reading, intensly involved in her book. She was posing so well, her hands were magnificent, and the way she crossed her legs(don't get me started on that subject) my oh my! Problem was, I was 3 stops from where I had to get off the metro...could I pull it off in that time??? I had to try, could'nt miss such an oppertunity at drawing a super pose from a beautiful girl, deeply involved in her book. very sexy. Pulled out my sketch book, and quickly doodled away, this is the result@colour doodle dump!

Dude on a Toronto subway by Marc

Greetings fellow doodle dumpers! Since there is no subway system in the section of NY State that I live in, I am unable to participate fully and freshly with this week's assignment.

However, I did manage to scrounge up a sketch I did on the Metro waaaay back during my first year at Sheridan....like 7 years ago (damn, it's been that long?). Obviously, it's blue Col-Erase in a sketch pad. Nothing special, speaks for itself. The signature is digital though...JUST added.

This week's assignment...

My turn to choose, eh?
Well, I've always been a supporter of the "go with what you know" concept, so I'm going to set the theme of this week to SUBWAY DRAWING (a favourite pastime of mine). Draw your take on the people of mass transit system, rendered in whatever medium you see fit. Sitting, reading, talking...let's see some people interracting with their surroundings.
Cheers guys!

Jackdesh and the Beanstalk by Matt

So I know this is COLOR doodle dump, but I'm dumping this doodle anyway...as I was away this past weekend and only had the chance to sketch out my idea on this great theme (thanks Maya!). I wanted to throw an East Indian curve on the idea of Jack and the Beanstalk, so here we have Jackdesh scurrying down the rope (think Indian Rope Trick) with the magic citar as he is discovered by its rightful owner. Yes, kinda minimallistic, but I think the storytelling works in this comp. Cheers.

Alien Beenstalk by Dado

Had a wonderful day walking trough High Park with my bro and Mihaela. We even saw some Buffalos and Lamas...don't ask ;) We came back and made an amazing Serbian BBQ, yum, hence no time to do a proper job on this assignment. This was a relay just a speed painting.
I wanted to give the old fairy tale a new spin. I imagine some alien life form growing out of freshly formed crater. Again, I did this on Nintendo DS, using the awesome "Colors" program.
Cheers all!

Jack and a Beanstalk

I got the idea for this week's challenge from Mihaela. We are all familiar with the classic fairytale, now, lets add a twist to it. Portray the beanstalk going to the sky/ground. Choose interesting camera angles and scale contrast. Beanstalk can be organic or inorganic (building, alien flora, monster tentacles etc.). Have fun with it @color doodle dump ;)

Elf procession by Dado

So here is my submission for Light and Shadow study.
My brother Danijel is a huge fan of LOTR so this one is for him ;)
It started with an idea of solitary horseman in forest, with strong beam of light hitting the ground. From there I went forward and tried to explore different compositions and color keys. All of them were done on Nintendo DS, using an awesome program called Colors, as the painting was getting into a finished form I pulled it into Photoshop and finished it there. Cheers!

Horus by Alex

My third painting of the day, and for the first assignment. Getting a bit burned out by now, perhaps it would have been better to do one painting per day instead of all three in one, but thats what I get for procrastinating. Couldnt settle on which idea to do , so i doodled at all of them. I think they all need more work and could be developed, this one especially, I wanted to do alot more with this, but thats it for now. Must say that non of the photos of these turned out very good compared to the original, and I couldnt scan them since they are oils and need couple of days to dry. Just exploring shapes and shadows and the orange yellow sienna mix. I like monochromatic, I tried to keep it just with warm colours. This is also inspired by my travels in Egypt, from the temples of Karnak and Luxor, and the west bank of Thebes. It is just a sculpture of Horus, the falcon divinity.

Cave by Alex

This is my second idea for the shadow doodle. Tried to show the flood of light into the shadow.
I love the warm orange colours, they glow and remind me of our krypton sun. Actualy it was inspired by my time in Egypt in the valley of the kings, entering caves in the desert, then coming out being almost blinded my the intesity of light. I dont know yet what to make of the person at the entrence, who or what he or she is up to, I must think on it, then I'll maybe add some specifics, until then he shall remain just a hooded person entering a cave in the desert.

Dancing Tree by Alex

So this is my first colour doodle, a simple tree, I saw it back lit and it seemed to be
dancing in the light. I tried to capture that with oils, and simple brushstrokes.

Ok, so for the first painting exploration, I think we could try something with 2 of the most important things in paint; light, shadow, and the colours that go through, between and around them. Also lets try and use the shadow as a compositional element if not the main element.
Lets try and focus on the reflective and refractive light, there should lots of colours going on there all the time, and hey, why not accentuate the beautiful. hehe. Go for it !!@ color doodle dump.
